- 19 cities will be opened up in phase I (Public consultation process for about 70 cities completed).
- The bidding process for the much awaited city gas distribution (CGD) network projects would begin from early next month with 19 cities to be opened up in the first phase.
- Estimated inflows of around $49 billion (about Rs2 trillion) into the sector over five years.
- So far received 71 EoIs from global and domestic players including Reliance Industries Ltd, GAIL and the existing CGD players that were permitted by the government before the regulator was formed.
- The players are expected to begin distribution activities within six months from then. In the first phase, six states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana will have CGD.
