Sasken provides services that include Handset Technology services, Network services, Hardware design services, Test lab services and offshore development centers. Sasken also has a sizeable product portfolio. Sasken offers GSM / GPRS / EDGE and WCDMA protocol stacks that are pre-integrated and proven on semiconductor platforms. The completeness, architectural scalability and flexibility of the stacks enable swift porting to newer silicon architectures. The Sasken Application Framework aimed at the Feature Phone market enables customers to create differentiated mobile phones by enabling software reuse and portability across phone designs and platforms. Sasken’s Multimedia Subsystem consists of full-featured application bundles for Smart Phones.

Like most of the IT service providers who did not have a broad base and were focusing on few specialized verticals, the company was hit by the economic slowdown due to the drastic cut in spending by the clients. While Sasken did take a hit on the revenue front, it managed to save on the net earnings front due to various cost cutting measure and gains from Forex. Also, Sasken has a proven client base that identifies the niche that Sasken provides in its services.

The telecom sector around the world faced a tough 18 months. Fresh capex was reduced, which meant that software vendors catering to telecom equipment manufacturers, chipmakers and even mobile service providers were affected. The only silver lining was handsets and smartphone companies that grew even during the economic crisis.

World-wide, semiconductor capital equipment spending, in revival mode now, is projected to be in excess of $35.4 billion in 2010, up 113.2 per cent from 2009. The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has projected a 28.4 per cent growth in worldwide chip sales to $290.5 billion in 2010.

Sasken is also expected to benefit from the introduction of 3G and broadband wireless services in India. Sasken already has a proven trackrecord and derives more than 25% of its revenues from India. This can place Sasken at a favorable position to gain various outsourced deals from these services.
